Two Dude’s Painting is making a massive wake in the painting industry. Something I learned very quickly when browsing around for painters was that almost everyone is sub contracting the work, and if you’ve ever hired painters like this before, you know why that’s not acceptable. Two Dudes actually employs all of their painters and because of this has amazing accountability. They put a huge focus on customer service and have actually made the, “Two Dudes 10 commandments of customer service” to ensure all of their employees are held to their standard of customer service.
Two Dudes was started in 1987 by two dudes: Pete Barber and Brian McCaskey. From humble beginnings lugging all their supplies around in a bright orange VW bus out of one of their mom’s spare rooms, they now occupy a 13,000 Sq Ft facility and employ over 40 painters. Two Dudes has also become a “B-corp,” and if you’re not sure what that is: ”B Corps meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability, and aspire to use the power of markets to solve social and environmental problems.” So let’s recap quickly… They employ their painters and place high value on customer service because they care about their customers and the work they put their name on. They’re super cool and real people who care about the world and surrounding communities. Isn’t doing good in the world why most of us are in business?
I’ll wrap this up by talking about their work. From the beginning you’ll know choosing the dudes was the best idea you’ve made when hiring for work on your home. They’re extremely responsive; while that’s good when getting things scheduled for an estimate, it’s also good to know they’re quick to respond in case there was ever an issue with your paint. One thing most companies skimp on when estimating is paint, either underquoting or not quoting cost of paint to make it seem less expensive than another quote. The dudes don’t do that, you’ll get an accurate estimate every time. Thinking matte paint would look amazing in your bathroom? DON’T DO IT. Matte paint will absorb the moisture in the air, something I learned from our quick chat… The dudes will help you pick out everything from color to the sheen of your paint to give you everything you hope for the right way. Looking to remodel your home or freshen it up? Check out Two Dudes Painting Company, 10/10 company I’ll be using whenever I’m painting again.
Bel Paese’s owner Salvatore first opened his doors in 1990 and has been a staple in York’s ever growing italian restaurant scene ever since. Moving to America from Italy in his 20s he worked in pizza shops with hopes to open his own restaurant. He started working with his uncle and worked his way up until he felt he was ready to go out on his own and Bel Paese became a reality.
After our lunch I honestly think I was full for 6-7 hours. You can tell in every bite that they place a high value on using premium ingredients and from my brief chat with them they’re passionate about that. Talking about Bel Paese vs. most of the Italian restaurants is kind of like comparing Gordon Ramsey to burger king… There’s a huge gap in quality and customer service. Our waitress was awesome and the food was incredible, what more could you ask for? Online ordering? Yeah, you can do that! While a little hard to navigate their online ordering is awesome and delivery is brought to you through carry-out courier. I’d consider that an innovative solution to staffing drivers that could be getting paid to sit around.
Have you heard of Bel Paese before? Maybe you’ve driven past it but didn’t notice it? Their location is great, even though it’s a little tucked away and hard to find. They’re located right beside the Galleria Mall in East York, just down Whiteford road by the Memory lane exit of rt 30. I highly suggest them next time you’re in the mood for some truly authentic Italian cuisine. You won’t regret it and will surely be back. Order now
Let me just start off with a link to their facebook page where you can see dozens of cakes they’ve made… Amy’s Custom Cakery You expect to see cakes like this on tv, not in your backyard. Amy’s staff has some incredible talent and could probably have a tv show if they wanted. Their cakes are gorgeous and Amy is awesome to work with.
Their specialty is fondant rolled wedding and special occasion cakes. Once you’ve had one you’ll probably be ordering them for every occasion (they’re that good). Their cakes give you a reason to celebrate things. We’re talking weddings, birthdays, holidays, pto meetings, graduation parties, your kid bringing that B or C in english up to an A… You’ll use every excuse you can find to order a cake. Maybe cakes aren’t your thing, fair to say but they’ve got other choices too.
Oh we’re not done, they do more than cakes. Cupcakes, cake pops, chances are if there is cake in it’s name Amy’s can make it. When I first walked in I had to really fight to not buy them out of cake pops. I can tell you about them all day but let’s look at what their customers have to say. This is a review from their Facebook by Chris and Jess,”I've never been to this business before and they came up on a quick Google search of bakery's in my area. so I sent an email requesting a single unicorn cupcake last minute thinking they we're gonna think I was nuts and say no, and to my surprise they responded, were willing and got it done the same day! and they did an amazing job, it was just what i wanted. and the staff were great, seems like a bunch of super fun ppl working there having fun. I will definitely be back for any future cake needs!!!” If that isn’t the definition of customer service, I don’t know what is…
Amy’s Custom Cakery is located in Dover, PA and we HIGHLY suggest giving them a call for your next cake.
This was one of my most exciting interviews to date. Kathryn is an absolute pleasure to work with. I had no idea walking in that she had just taken the business over the week prior. With that in mind she’s already made some small changes with a lot more in store. Founded in 1958 Olp’s Flowers has been a staple in Jacobus, but had a stigma about it we call the “old york ways”. The good news is that Kathryn has a new mentality and is so excited for the opportunity she’s been given to grow the business. She hopes the new business will make an imprint on the surrounding area. This is one of the few articles we won’t be including pictures in. Simply because so much is going to change that we want to do a follow up with Kathryn after everything is remodeled.
We had the opportunity to preview some of the pieces she was working on and were surprised by her meticulous attention to small details. She’s an awesome artist and I have zero doubt you’ll enjoy anything she makes you. When we talked about her past experience in the floral industry I was kind of puzzled as to why in the world she’s back in York. The simple answer: she's native to Southern York County and believes in the area's potential. Almost like our neighbor over the river Lancaster, York’s rehab project promises some huge changes in the area over the next few years. Kathryn hopes to be a driving force for change as fine arts are growing in popularity locally. More on that in our coming article...
Why choose Olp’s Flowers? Great sense of style and a passion for perfection that shines through in their work. We’ll be bringing you a much more in depth article on Olp’s when the remodel and renovations are complete. By then you'll already know the name when you think York Pa flowers...
This place is awesome. Some of the friendliest barbers around York and by far the coolest spot I’ve had my hair done. They’re celebrating an amazing 55 years in business this year so a massive congratulations to them. Opening in 1962 they’ve been family owned and operated ever since. They started out with only 1 barber and 3 chairs and have grown to 10 chairs and 8 stylists/barbers and still expanding!
On to the “new school” in our title.. I’ll call them an “everything” barbershop, men’s cuts, women’s cuts, and children too. Their artists offer an array colors, so whatever you’re looking for they’ve got you covered. I’ll have to admit I’m not a cosmetologist and I don’t know every single service they offer, but if you’re looking for an amazing shave then look no further. Barbering has been around as long as cutting hair has. So how do they stay at the top of their game and updated with the freshest styles? Constantly taking classes and furthering their educations. It’s like how doctors and lawyers attend seminars and classes to stay updated on health and law. Except a career with hair is far from as bland as a medical or legal careers.
Where do we expect to see them in the next few months? Well they should have their 2 extra chairs filled which means 10 barbers/stylists. More shavers means more hot towel shaves, and more razor work all around. We’re expecting to see some pretty epic cuts coming out of Mt. Rose Barberama this year. More than that we hear they’ll be carrying more professional product as well so look out for MRB to be your everything hair one-stop-shop. Their 55 year celebration will be on Small Business Saturday (Nov. 18, 2017) where they might be giving away a lifetime of free haircuts.
I just switched insurance 2-3 months ago and I’ll be switching again… Their free “Ross Review” is awesome. You bring in your policy and all of the things your current agent is fudging or tweaking the wrong way will be pointed out to you. My insurance was so out of whack I’m really not sure if I was actually insured (not Ross insurance, I’m switching to Ross). But that’s beside the point, back to Ross…
Ross Insurance was founded in 1960 and has been family run ever since. They’re an independent insurance agency that represents 30 insurance companies. Your average insurance agency represents like 3/4/5 insurance companies, big difference. What representing so many companies enables them to do is give the absolute lowest price for all of your policies and we’re talking everything insurance. House, car, boat, plane, life, business, you name it and they’ve probably got a solution for you.
Not only are they the least expensive and independent insurance option but they’ve also got years and years of experience. Rick Ross (not the rapper) and I had a conversation about our backgrounds and how we ended up in our respective careers. He originally answered phones for his father who founded Ross when he was just 6 years old. Insurance is literally in their blood, entrusting them with your insurance needs is one of the smartest long term decisions you’ll ever make. Price, options, availability, I rarely meet anyone with their level of dedication to customer service anymore. Take advantage of their Ross Review to see how your insurance stacks up. Do you know if you’re covered for everything that could happen?
It’s always hard to decide what to start on when it comes to these articles. So for these two we’ll start at the beginning. The “717 Team” is comprised of Justine and Gina, both excellent real estate agents with a whole lot of passion. Justine got into the industry when she was moving around a lot, her experiences with moving were never up to the standard she was hoping for. From this she decided that she could do something different, and her real estate career was born. Gina took a completely different route. She did what everyone wishes they could: find something she liked (people and houses) and started her career.
These two just got together in 2017 and are already crushing it. They work so well together it’s head spinning, working with buyers, sellers, investors, relocations, and companies looking for employee housing they really know their stuff. When it comes to real estate in Lancaster County I know there’s only one person I would (and did) call. My experience with these two has been awesome, from the first time I looked around on their website to the first email I received from Gina. Their website http://717team.com/ is amazing. They have so many houses in every price range you’re bound to find what you’re looking for. As a buyer, chances are you already know what you want. If that’s the case then they probably have five or six houses in mind for you.
If you’re on the fence about selling, it’s time to jump… The market is crazy hot and buyers and sellers need to be prepared. I have the utmost confidence that the 717 team will move your house faster than anyone else. Remember that’s speculation but from the small piece of their business I’ve seen they’re ready to put the pedal to the floor and make some dreams come true. I know when I’m ready to find another house they’ll be the first people I call. For more information from this dynamic duo check out the link to their website above or click the ad below.
Let’s start with basics, these guys can handle everything your business needs to accept payment. After sitting down with Jeff Smith, I now know more about merchant account processing than google. He really knows his field and has it down to a science, combining multiple services to build our advertising payment platform into exactly what we needed. Not only is it simple to use but it’s also secure. It’s likely these days that your small business is a target of hackers, and while that’s always a scary thought you should always take precautions when handling any kind of customer information. They’ve got tons of products to make accepting electronic payments easier: terminals, virtual terminals, POS systems, and more.
Going through the process was a breeze, after going over our current rates and redesigning our structure we figured out the best solution for our needs. We ultimately decided on a virtual terminal since we have no intention of ever swiping a card, making a terminal or pos system useless. After that was all set up he helped us out with a management system that is so easy to use we hired a 4 year old to use it. He also informed us about a new industry technique called P2PE that utilizes an encryption and tokenization process that makes customer information nearly impossible to steal. In today’s world that is huge. It seems as if every week or so we see another major retailer releasing statements that their data has been breached. If they had JLE on their side, these things wouldn’t happen so often.
After talking for a while Jeff really proved to me that JLE really is the evolution of merchant services. With 24/7 customer service, and not just a 1-800 number I mean real customer service, why would you use anyone else? If you’ve got a business give them a call, you’d be surprised what you may not know.
After getting the grand tour of Veleska’s showroom and studio all I can say is WOW! So many beautiful pieces and such a massive variety I find it hard to believe they don’t have exactly what you’re looking for. But if they don’t you’re still in luck, I would venture to say that their artists are the absolute best that Lancaster County has to offer. I’m no jewelry expert but I was completely blown away by their custom work, I specifically remember this one ring…
I believe it was a 2 carat diamond in a white gold ring. I can’t even describe it. As hard as I’ve tried to put it into words nothing does it justice. Truly magnificent jewelry and the experience to back up their quality. I honestly knew nothing about jewelry walking into Veleska, and now I can tell you all about the 4Cs of diamond grading. Cut, Clarity, Color, and Carat weight. Do I know how to grade a diamond? Absolutely not, but Veleska certainly does!
Ok now let’s talk about that thing no guy is really ever ready for but your girlfriend is going to ask about until you ask her… Engagement rings. Now I (like a majority of men) had no idea what I was doing when it comes to engagement rings. Kathryn at Veleska helped completely de-mystify the entire process and made choosing a design/cut/diamond such a fun experience. She really understood that I didn’t know what I was doing and walked me through every step from choosing a band design, band material, diamond cut, even letting me choose my own diamond. While I was waiting for her to mock something up to give me a really good idea at what I was I walked around their showroom to see what else they offered. I stumbled across their Trollbeads display and realized that they had a better version of the pandora bracelet I had purchased for Valentine's day. Much better quality and you definitely won’t be overpaying at Veleska either.
Timeless styles and the best service you’ll ever receive. There’s no reason to shop anywhere but Veleska Jewelry. Check them out at: http://www.veleska.com/
Since 2000 Willie’s paving has been dedicated to providing south central PA with the best paving services around. As the area’s PennDOT certified paving contractor there’s very few people who could keep up with their work.
Everyone has or knows of a neighbor who’s been burned by some paving contractor or seal-coater running some “I have some extra left over from the house up the street” skimp job deal. These guys are far more professional than that going above and beyond industry standards to really ensure customer satisfaction. It’s rare in any industry to see such a huge value placed on customer service and satisfaction let alone in any home service/construction business. You can tell that these guys actually care, and they wouldn’t be paving Walmart parking lots if they weren’t stellar pavers too.
There’s not much else we can really say, I think the general population understand what an asphalt paving contractor does… I will mention however that Willie’s family has been in the paving business for 4 generations, and they’ve certainly built an outstanding reputation within our community.
